Fucidin® Ointment/Cream

Patient package insert according to Pharmacists' Regulations (Preparations),1986. This medicine is to be dispensed upon physician's prescription only. Carefully read the entire package insert before using this medication.

Composition:

Fucidin Ointment contains Sodium fusidate 2% Inactive ingredients: Cetyl alcohol, wool fat, liquid paraffin and white soft paraffin. Fucidin Cream contains Fusidic acid 2% Inactive ingredients: Cetyl alcohol, glycerol (85%), liquid paraffin, polysorbate 60, white soft paraffin, potassium sorbate, butylhydroxyanisole, hydrochloric acid, purified water. 

Therapeutic group: Topical antibiotic

Therapeutic action: Antibiotic for treatment of bacterial skin infections susceptible to the preparation

When should this medicine not be used?

Do not use this medicine if you are aware of any hypersensitivity to fusidic acid, its salts or to any other ingredients of the medicine.

Do not use this medicine without consulting your physician before commencing treatment:

If you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Warnings: If you are aware of any sensitivities to foods or drugs inform your physician before taking this medicine. Some of the inactive ingredients in Fucidin Ointment and Cream may cause local skin reactions. Do not use Fucidin Ointment in the eye area. Fucidin cream may cause irritation of the eyes or mucous membranes because it contains butylhydroxyanisole. Breastfeeding women should not apply Fucidin Ointment and Cream on their nipples before breastfeeding.

Drug interactions: If you are taking other medicines concurrently, or have just completed treatment with another medicine, inform your physician in order to prevent hazards or inefficacy arising from drug interactions.

Side effects: In addition to the desired effect of the medicine, some side effects may appear during treatment. The most common side effects are skin reactions, mainly in the area where the ointment or cream has been applied. Allergic reactions to the preparation have been reported. Burning or stinging sensation - treatment should be continued as determined by the physician. Skin irritation, itching - continue treatment and refer to your physician. Side effects requiring special attention: rash, urticaria (a common allergic reaction characterized by red skin lesions), allergic reaction in the area of application of the ointment or cream, eczema, conjunctival irritation (with Fucidin ointment), swelling around the eyes, swelling of the face, lips, tongue or throat, difficulty swallowing, difficulty breathing: stop treatment and refer to your physician! In the event that you experience side effects not mentioned in this leaflet, or if there is a change in your general health, consult your physician immediately.

Dosage:

Dosage according to physician's instructions only. The recommended dosage unless otherwise instructed by your physician is: Apply a thin layer on the affected area 2-3 times a day, for at least 7 days and do not cover. If the treated area is to be covered by a dressing, one application a day is sufficient. If you have forgotten to apply this medicine at the scheduled time, do not apply a double amount at the next scheduled application time.

Attention: Do not swallow! This medicine is intended for external use only. Avoid contact with the eyes. Use on broad areas or prolonged use may increase side effects and create resistance to the preparation. How can you help this treatment succeed? Complete the entire course of treatment as directed by your physician. Even if there is an improvement in your health, do not discontinue treatment with this medicine without consulting a physician.

Avoid poisoning! This medicine, and any other medicine should be kept in a closed place out of the reach of children and/or infants to avoid poisoning. If a child accidentally swallowed this medicine, proceed immediately to a hospital emergency room and bring the medicine package with you. Do not induce vomiting without explicit instructions from a physician! This medicine has been prescribed for the treatment of your ailment. In another patient it may cause harm. Do not give this medicine to relatives, neighbors or friends. Medicines should not be taken in the dark! Check the label and the dose every time you take this medicine. Wear glasses if you need them.

Storage: In a cool place. Even if kept in their recommended storage conditions, drugs retain their potency for a limited period only. Please note the expiry date of this medicine! Do not use it for more than one month after opening the tube. If in doubt, consult with the dispensing pharmacist. Do not store different medicines in the same container.
