Therapeutic group: Simvastatin belongs to a group of medicines called "statins". Statins inhibit the action of the enzyme HMG-CoA reductase.

Therapeutic action: Simvaxon is used for lowering the levels of "bad" cholesterol (LDL) and other lipid components in the blood and for raising the levels of "good" cholesterol (HDL) in patients with hyperlipidemia (high lipid levels in the blood). In patients with coronary heart disease and hypercholesterolemia (excessive cholesterol in the blood), Simvaxon reduces the risk of total mortality by reducing coronary death, reduces the risk of non-fatal myocardial infarction, reduces the risk of undergoing invasive procedures (e.g. angioplasty or bypass surgery) and reduces the risk of stroke.
